Hurray! It’s Coffee Day and nothing screams “Coffee Day!” like a mean espresso martini. Coffee Day was created to celebrate the existence of coffee, and so far it has been an amazing opportunity for coffee lovers to promote their favourite beverage and drink.

Coffee comes in so many varieties and the espresso martini is just one of them. This drink is a combination of coffee and vodka – specifically designed to both keep you awake and disorient you all at the same time.

Fun Facts About the Espresso Martini

For a lot of people, this drink is their go-to order every Friday night when they need to unwind. But just how many people know where this drink comes from? Although your uncle Jack may claim that he invented this drink, it was actually created almost four decades ago.

The Espresso Martini was originally created by an Australian bartender known as Dick Bradsell in the 80s. A supermodel asked him to create a drink that would wake her up and keep her awake through the night. On the spot, Bradsell threw a few ingredients together, and this delicious concoction was born.

So, if you are a lover of espresso martinis, you should probably mount a statue in Dick Bradsell’s honor. This recipe has evolved over the years and today, almost anyone can make it.

Espresso Martini Recipe

Making an espresso martini is as easy as 1-2-3, and you can always make a glass for yourself. Although the original martini recipe was simple with minimal ingredients, it has since evolved. So, you can decide to spice up your drink or maintain the regular recipe.

Ingredients

  • Ice
  • Vodka
  • Coffee beans
  • Kahlua
  • Espresso coffee

Directions

Pour the ice into a shaker and pour all ingredients – except for the coffee beans – over the ice. The coffee beans should be reserved for later. Once you have done this, grab the shaker and shake the mixture properly.

Pour mixture into a martini glass and garnish it with the coffee beans. Voila! Your strong espresso martini is ready to go.

Tips

Here are some tricks for making a badass espresso martini:

  1. Prepare the espresso coffee a few days in advance. Once you have done this, you can either let it cool naturally or store it in a refrigerator. However, flavor is better when you let it cool naturally first and then store it in a refrigerator for preservation.
  2. When shaking the mixture, shake it in a back and forth motion for about 15 seconds in order to get an amazing froth at the top.

This drink is so easy to make that you may be tempted to make it every day of the week. Be careful with this drink though: it is so mean that it could knock you out!
