Tequila Shot Recipes

There are many reasons to take a shot of tequila. If you’re in a party mood, tequila can help you get there; they’re just plain fun. You can have them at a big party or just a simple get-together at home. When you make them right, they can be downright delicious.

You’ve probably done the straight tequila shot — followed by a lime — a million times before. We don’t blame you; it’s a classic. But why not mix things up and try one of these tequila shot recipes? Whether you like your tequila shots sweet, spicy, or somewhere in between, we’ve got a recipe for you.

What Is Tequila?

Tequila is a Mexican spirit made from the blue agave plant. The tequila-making process is pretty fascinating. Once the agave hearts are harvested, they’re cooked and then mashed into a pulp. This pulp is then fermented and distilled to create the tequila we all know and love.

Some tequilas are best enjoyed neat, while others are better suited for mixed drinks. Of course, some tequilas are meant for taking shots. The classic tequila shot is just tequila and nothing else, but there are plenty of ways to dress up a tequila shot if you’re looking for something a little more exciting.

  6. Wait for the grenadine to settle at the bottom of the shot glass.
  7. Take the shot!

You may use a spoon to help keep the tequila and grenadine separate. The back of a teaspoon works well for pouring the grenadine slowly down the side of the shot glass.
