Christmas cocktails

The holidays are a time for gathering and celebrating the joys of the season. Whether you prefer Christmas cocktails vodka based or Christmas cocktails gin infused, there are plenty of seasonal offerings to get you in the giving spirit. On the way to your next gathering, stop by Zipps Liquor to pick up all the ingredients you need for making the top cocktails this holiday season. These festive recipes will inspire you to make a list and check it twice. 

Spiked Custard 

Ingredients

  • 1 c. Spirit of Texas Pecan Street Rum  
  • ¾ c. milk 
  • ½ c. whipping cream 
  • ½ c. half and half
  • 4 egg yolks 
  • ¼ c. granulated sugar 
  • 1 vanilla bean pod scraped, pod discarded 

Directions

  1. In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, add milk, creams, and vanilla beans, and pod
  2. Heat until just beginning to simmer 
  3. Meanwhile, crack eggs and separate yolk from whites 
  4. (Save whites for another cocktail recipe like the Ramos Gin Fizz below)
  5. Whisk yolks until light and thickened 
  6. Add sugar and whisk again until light and sugar has dissolved 
  7. Slowly add hot milk mixture to egg mixture by drizzling down the side of the bowl 
  8. Whisk rapidly so as not to cook 
  9. After enough hot milk mixture has been added, return to pan and heat 
  10. Do not actually boil despite the name 
  11. Only heat until mixtures thickens and coats the back of a spoon 
  12. Strain through fine sieve and discard pod
  13. Add rum 
  14. Serve hot or chill for at least four hours and serve cold

Ginger & Rye 

Ingredients

  • 2 oz. Gulf Coast Distillers Giant Straight Rye Whiskey 
  • Ginger ale to fill the glass 
  • Slice of fresh ginger for garnish 

Directions

  1. Add fresh ginger to the bottom of a tall glass 
  2. Add ice to top
  3. Add rye 
  4. Fill ginger ale to top of the glass 

The Grinch’s Pinch

Ingredients

  • 1 c. ice 
  • 1 oz. Nue grapefruit vodka 
  • ½ oz. rum 
  • ½ oz Midori 
  • ½ oz. Blue Curacao
  • 6 oz. pineapple juice
  • Splash lemon-lime soda
  • Simple syrup 
  • Red sanding sugar 

Directions 

  1. Dip rim of the glass in simple syrup 
  2. Dip and roll rim of the glass in sanding sugar 
  3. Add 1 cup of ice to rimmed glass and set aside
  4. Add all liquors and juices to a cocktail shaker with ice 
  5. Shake thoroughly
  6. Strain into rimmed glass 
  7. Top off with lemon-lime soda 

Coquito 

Ingredients 

  • 1 c. Railean Texas White Rum
  • 1 15 oz. can coconut cream 
  • 1 14 oz can sweetened condensed milk 
  • 1 12 oz can evaporated milk
  • 1 c. unsweetened coconut milk 
  • 1 tbsp. pure vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp. ground cinnamon 
  • ½ tsp. freshly grated nutmeg 

Directions 

  1. Add all ingredients to a blender 
  2. Blend until smooth 
  3. Transfer to pitcher and cover 
  4. Let chill for at least two hours 
  5. Stir vigorously 
  6. Serve with a cinnamon stick

Candy Cane Lane 

Ingredients

  • 2 oz. Dripping Springs Vodka 
  • 1 ½ oz. creme de cacao 
  • 1 oz peppermint Schnapps 
  • Crushed candy canes 
  • Mini candy cane stick 
  • Ice

Directions

  1. Crush candy canes in a bag and pour them onto a small plate 
  2. Pour mint simple syrup or plain simple syrup on another plate 
  3. Rim martini glass in simple syrup 
  4. Roll the rim of martini glass in crushed candy cane bits and set aside 
  5. Pour all liquors into a shaker with ice 
  6. Shake vigorously
  7. Pour into a martini glass 
  8. Garnish with candy cane stick if desired 

Sugar Plum Punch 

Ingredients 

  • 2 bottles of Homestead Winery Homestead Red
  • 1 2-liter of ginger ale 
  • 2 c. fresh plums pitted chopped into small cubes and frozen 
  • Zest of 1 lime, plus juice 
  • Zest of 1 lemon, plus juice 
  • 2 inches of ginger, grated
  • ½ c.of simple syrup 

Directions

  1. Combine all ingredients into a large bowl to combine except plums 
  2. Separate out into pitchers for serving
  3. Add frozen plum cubes to each pitcher for serving 
  4. Alternately, you can serve in parge punch bowl with frozen plums floating on top 

Cider Mimosa 

Ingredients 

Directions

  1. Add orange zest twists to eight chilled champagne flutes 
  2. Fill a pitcher with the apple cider and Grand Marnier
  3. Serve mixture until champagne flutes are 1/2 full 
  4. Fill to top with sparkling wine 

Ramos Ginn Fizz 

Ingredients

  • 2 oz. Blackland Distillery Gin  
  • ¾ oz. simple syrup 
  • ½ oz. fresh lemon juice 
  • ½ oz fresh lime juice 
  • ½ oz. heavy cream 
  • 1 fresh egg white 
  • 4 dashes of orange flower water 
  • Chilled club soda to fill 

Directions 

  1. Add all liquid ingredients aside from the club soda into a shaker 
  2. Dry shake the ingredients with no ice for about 15 seconds
  3. Add ice to the shaker and shake vigorously for another 15 seconds 
  4. Strain into a tall glass 
  5. Top off with chilled club soda 
  6. Enjoy with or without a straw 

Spiked Gingerbread Cream 

Ingredients 

  • ½  c. Whitmeyer’s Texas Whiskey
  • 2 c. coffee 
  • 2 c. brown sugar 
  • ¼ cup molasses 
  • 2 cinnamon sticks 
  • 8 allspice berries 
  • 6 whole cloves 
  • 1 1-inch long piece of fresh ginger split 
  • 2 c. heavy cream lightly whipped 

Directions

  1. Add sugar and water to a heavy-bottomed saucepan 
  2. Bring to boil until sugar dissolves 
  3. Once boiling, reduce heat and add all species 
  4. Simmer for 30 minutes or more on low-medium heat 
  5. Once consistency and taste are to preference, remove from heat 
  6. Add whiskey while still warm and stir vigorously 
  7. Cool slightly
  8. Add heavy cream and whisk lightly 
  9. Add to a cream pitcher and use to cream coffee
     

St. Germain Spritzer 

Ingredients

  • 2 oz. St. Germain
  • 4 oz. Whistling Duck Winery Texas Sparkler Sparkling dry white wine 
  • 2 oz. soda water 
  • Fresh herbs for garnish like lavender and rosemary

Directions

  1. Add fresh herbs to a tall glass 
  2. Fill tall glass to top with ice 
  3. Add St. Germain and stir to chill 
  4. Top with sparkling 
  5. Stir gently to combine 
  6. Sprinkle with lavender buds to garnish 

There are plenty of festive cocktail recipes to enjoy. Christmas cocktails with Champagne or sparkling may be the most renowned holiday drinks thanks to their fizzy, joyous nature. However, whiskey and gin beverages are just as delicious while opening presents or catching up with family.
