W. Goodrich Jones State Forest
Known for its champion sweetleaf tree, this public forest features miles of breathtaking trails, places to rest and relax, and two lakes. The W.G. Jones State Forest is one of the nation’s largest working urban forests and its main purpose is to serve as a resource for support education, prescribed burning, reforestation, ecological restoration, habitat restoration, and more. Every year, an average of 80,000 people visit the forest to learn about conservation efforts, hike its trails, and enjoy fishing in its lakes. It is also home to a large population of the red-cockaded woodpecker and a large list of endangered species.
The Woodlands Children’s Museum
Grab the kiddos and head over to The Woodlands Children’s Museum. There, they take play very seriously. The museum has interactive exhibits, educational programming, and special events that are specifically designed for kids seven and under. Exhibits include The Market, Fire House, Read A Lot Kingdom, Rainbow tunnel and more. You will have a great time watching your kids explore and learn as they play.
Robard’s Steakhouse
Visit one of The Woodlands many restaurants, such as this award-winning, classic American steakhouse. Robard’s Steakhouse was named after one of Texas’ visionaries, Howard Robard Hughes. Robard’s Steakhouse has iconic dishes that push the boundaries of the cuisine. They hand-select each cut of beef that makes its way to the table and apply their dry-aging method to preserve the taste. Each bite of steak is mouth-water and juicy. Winter Wonderland
If you are visiting in December, be sure to stop by The Woodlands Winter Wonderland. This free winter wonderland features reindeer, carnival games, balloon artists, face painters, and merchant booths. Santa Claus is also there to ask your kids what they want for Christmas and to take pictures with the whole family.
Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion
Catch a show at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion. It hosts world-class musicians and artists from around the world. Owned by the Center for the Performing Arts at The Woodlands, this pavilion provides educational programs, training, and performance opportunities for young artists. The pavilion hosts 50 to 60 events every year that range from rock to the American ballet. Check out their schedule here.
